BOO!, Cape Town
Event Details
28 & 29 December 2011
The band Boo! was formed in 1997 in the dirty backstreets of Brixton in Joburg, when its founding members – Ampie Omo, Chris Chameleon and Leon Retief – conspired to make music that would go against most conventional tunes of the time. They described their style of music as “monki punk” and became one of South Africa’s favourite bands of all time, and one of the country’s proudest musical exports to both North America and Europe.
Last year Boo! emerged again with a change in wardrobe and new drummer Riaan van Rensburg. Earlier this year, the band set up camp in Amsterdam to record their latest album, The Three of Us. Now, they’re back on home soil for two exclusive gigs: one at The Kalahari Theatre and the other at the Mercury Lounge in Cape Town.
Their weird, wacky and totally wonderful performances will no doubt have old fans flocking to embrace their unique sound, and new fans will fast learn that “booing” after a song is a good thing – and will probably get you more!
