Did you know? The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) is a search-and-rescue organisation run by 920 dedicated volunteers who are on standby day and night, every single day of the year.

The urgent need for a sea-rescue organisation in South Africa was highlighted in 1966, when 17 fishermen drowned after their trawler sank near Still Bay due to the absence of a rescue service. Today, the organisation has 30 coastal and three inland rescue bases, a fleet of 72 rescue craft, 21 vehicles and access to a range of helicopters for the purpose of keeping people who use South Africa’s waterways safe.  Add a comment

Instead of “drop and give me 20”, coaches can now be heard shouting things like “give me your recovery time!” and “log your workout!” This is because Garmin is taking school coaching, and thus school-sport training, to a whole new level. Welcome to Garmin’s Edufit programme.

The Edufit programme, which was launched earlier this year, was created after Garmin recognised that school sport was no joke. Kids (boys and girls) who are competing at a national level are serious about achieving great things in their chosen sport, so they go through vigorous training programmes. Add a comment
