routeThis morning my trusty Forerunner 305 and I went for our first run on the mountain in 15 very long weeks of non-running (forced rehab to heal a femoral stress fracture I picked up while training for the Namib Desert Challenge earlier this year).
The run was fantastic! I chose a favourite local route called Vlakkenberg, which for those who know Cape Town is the mountain on the southern side above Constantia Nek. The route takes you up Vlakkenberg and down the dip on the other side, up another nasty incline to the side of Constantiaberg, where you branch off southwestwards and follow a path that takes you above Hout Bay, down the side of the old manganese mines, and spits you out at East Fort on Chapmans Peak Drive.

It’s a short (only 8.2km) but bang-for-bucks kind of route, with sections of tough technical ascents and descents that keep your legs guessing and your lungs pumping.
And now I just need to work on getting my fitness back so I can run it in the time I’m used to!
