stoltzSouth Africa's Dan Hugo finished second at the last weekend's Xterra Richmond in the state of Virginia.

His fellow countryman Conrad Stoltz won the event over 1.5km-swim, 32km-mountain biking and 10km-trail run in 2 hours, 20 minutes and 24 seconds. Hugo's time was 2:22.38. Nico Lebrun from France took the final podium spot in 2:28.02.

Hugo was second out of the water only seconds behind Craig Evans and splits seconds in front of Stoltz. Stoltz got on his mountain bike before Hugo though and from then on the 24-year-old was chasing the four time world champion.

"The first kilometer on the bike he's putting down 500 watts and I'm thinking this is the moment, I've got to be on his wheels, but the power he generates…" said Hugo.

Stoltz was two minutes faster than Hugo on the bike and he gave it his all on the run, which meant that Hugo couldn't close the gap.

It was the third time that Hugo finished second behind Stoltz in the Xterra series this season. In Richmond Hugo has finished second for the third time in four years.
