I had a few keen campers willing to try the device out especially those who were familiar with fitness devices and heart rate monitors. Marlene Greaves tried the device out during week 4 of camp 6 on cardio and legs day. Her average heart rate was 137 and her maximum heart rate was 175. She burnt 511 calories during the session of 60 minutes. She really enjoyed the fact that she could monitor her heart rate throughout the session as well as seeing the amount of calories burnt! We tried the device with two more campers. Anja Blaauw and Nina Venter used the device during week 1 of camp 7 on a general body day and Anja's average heart rate was 127 and her maximum heart rate was 183. Her calories burnt were 326. Nina's average heart rate was 147 and her maximum heart rate was 180. She burnt 462 calories. Both ladies enjoyed the experience of using the device and seeing the results after their training and Nina now wants one for Christmas! Personally I preferred having my own device so I ordered one and I am now using it on a daily basis in the gym as well as outdoors with my own training program. I am learning more and more each day! I can now talk about it more at camp and really tell the ladies about all the cool things it can do. I love the website and I found some training videos that really helped me to use the device properly. I am still in training with my FR60 (especially with the foot pod and training pages) but I am eager to learn and give my ladies a great experience along with GARMIN. What I am really excited about is being able to see how hard the ladies are working at camp, distance covered, calories burnt, etc. We will be using the device at camp by continuously rotating it between campers and in doing so we can compare specific days and weeks during the 4 week programme and see how the intensity increases, in which heart rate zones they have worked, distance covered, calories burnt, etc. To me the GARMIN FR60 is the way to go if you want to invest in a fitness device to track your training and set personal goals. |

At first I was not too excited about the thought of testing the Garmin FR60 as I am not a person who is interested in gadgets and I usually give the manuals and gadgets to my husband to figure out and then get the short version from him. This time around I sat down with the device and was not sure where to start but eventually managed to find my way around the settings. I must say it was not easy to navigate around but once I figured out how the basics worked, I was feeling a bit more confident to try it out at camp. It was great to eventually be able to show my campers what the Garmin FR60 looked like.
