fitnessThe secret behind setting goals and sticking to them is having a solid plan that you can action immediately. Garmin Fitness teamed up with Adventure Boot Camp to offer women fun in the great outdoors.

Garmin Fitness’ Mich Letcher says Adventure Boot Camp is the most fun you’ll have while exercising. The four-week programme is designed to keep you interested while working out for an hour a day, three or five days a week.

Small groups of women exercise outdoors under the guidance of a qualified personal trainer. Women of all fitness levels can attend, and exercises include short-distance running, rope skipping, abs and core training, Pilates, obstacle courses, circuit training, weights, mat work, games and hiking. Mich was impressed by the way the training programme worked. Being quite fit, she thought she’d be kept back by the less fit participants, but she was wrong.

“Everyone works to her individual capability. The stronger girls who finish first have to continue with the sets or cardio until the others catch up. So we end up working longer and harder – it’s really awesome,” she says.

ABC not only tracks your fitness progress but also offers a personalised eating plan to help shed weight. They also encourage participants to calculate their maximum heart rate (HR) and HR zones so you can keep an eye on your HR.

Besides the health benefits, ABC also benefits your social life because participants have the opportunity to meet new friends and gain motivation.

“I usually train alone, but it was great to train with a bunch of girls. The energy in the sessions was motivating, and we pushed each other to try harder.”

Results
In the four weeks, Mich lost five centimetres and dropped 2% body fat – and her fitness increased. Thanks to her Garmin fitness device, here are some stats from her camp.

  • She completed 20 hours of training.
  • She ran 57 kilometres.
  • She burnt 5 126 calories.
  • Her average heart rate was 137, which is Mich’s fat-burning zone
